Michael Tamblyn

President & CEO

Michael is the President and Chief Executive Officer at Rakuten Kobo. Driving growth, profitability and international expansion in a fiercely competitive market, he combines a passion for reading with a deep focus on the hardware and software experiences that can make a customer’s reading life better. A passionate and engaging presenter and commentator, Michael speaks internationally on digital media, publishing and mobile technology and has been featured in the New Yorker, Wired, Canadian Business, National Post, Globe and Mail and the New York Times. Additionally, he oversees Rakuten’s other eReading businesses including OverDrive, the world leader in eBook services for libraries, and Aquafadas, a world leader in interactive publishing.

Michael has been a part of Rakuten Kobo’s executive team since its inception in 2009, and previously held the role of Chief Content Officer. Prior to joining Kobo, Michael was the founding CEO of the supply chain agency, BookNet Canada and co-founded Canada’s first online bookstore, Bookshelf.ca, purchased by Indigo Books & Music in 1998 to create Indigo.ca, where he served as VP of Online Operations.

Voordat Trevor bij Rakuten Kobo kwam, bekleedde hij verschillende rollen bij Infusion, waar hij ervaring opdeed als betrouwbaar adviseur door zijn werk in verschillende bedrijfstakken, zoals retail, reizen & gastvrijheid en financiële diensten.

Trevor heeft een Bachelor of Science in Computerwetenschappen behaald aan de Universiteit van Ulster.

Alan MacNevin

Alan MacNevin is Rakuten Kobo’s Chief Operating Officer, ensuring the vision of the company is made a reality and executed efficiently, and that the company is operating as effectively as possible to attain continued growth globally. Previously, Alan was Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President at Rakuten Kobo, responsible for brand, the customer lifecycle, customer loyalty, and the Big Data and CRM organizations.

Before taking on the CMO role, Alan was Executive Vice President & Chief Revenue Officer, responsible for driving revenue and customer acquisition by harnessing innovation and strengthening customer relationships. In this role, he oversaw content sales and customer value optimization, marketing, customer care, and business development. He has unparalleled knowledge about Rakuten Kobo’s customers, and focused on the customer relationship from acquisition to retention.

Prior to joining Kobo, Alan held marketing positions at Chapters Online, CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation), and Bell Mobility. Most recently, Alan served on the executive team at Sirius Satellite Radio as VP, CRM, where he was also a founding member of the management team for the Canadian organization.

Marianne Hamilton is the Chief Marketing Officer of Rakuten Kobo. Responsible for the entire customer journey, from acquisition and retention to ebook, audiobook and eReader sales, she applies an integrated marketing discipline to deliver brand and business growth. Marianne is a dynamic leader and strong collaborator who motivates diverse teams toward improving reading lives, based on our core belief that life is better with books.

A communications professional with a certificate in media and advertising, Marianne worked agency-side doing public relations, social media and product marketing for several Fortune 500 companies. She also led Canada's marketing organization for Motorola during the advent of Android smartphones. Marianne joined Rakuten Kobo in 2012 to increase the company's marketing and sales impact through its global network of retail partners.

Pieter Swinkels

Pieter Swinkels is the Chief Content Officer at Rakuten Kobo, a global leader in digital reading. Pieter is responsible for the growth of Kobo’s worldwide content catalogue and driving business relationships with publishers, agents and authors. In addition, his responsibilities include expanding the Kobo Writing Life self-publishing platform, expanding the Kobo Plus subscriptions service, and continuing to build out the Kobo Originals program of new and exclusive eBooks, audiobooks and podcast content.

Dave Anderson - EVP, Content Sales

Dave Anderson

Dave Anderson is the Chief Strategy Officer at Rakuten Kobo, focusing on strategy and corporate development; big data and analytics; and global supply chain.

Working closely with the CEO and executive team, Dave is responsible for developing, communicating and managing the company’s strategic direction. His team is the insight hub for the company and is responsible for applying machine learning and big data techniques to analyze and interpret customer behaviours, business performance and product trends. Finally, Dave’s team manages all the complexities of a global consumer electronics supply chain.

Before joining Kobo, Dave was a management consultant with Accenture where he focused on retail operations, global supply chain operations and international market expansion. Prior to Accenture, Dave spent seven years with Indigo Books & Music Inc. working in the areas of supply chain, inventory management and assortment planning.

Dave holds an MBA from the Ivey Business School.

Philip Cheng

CFO

Philip is Chief Financial Officer van Rakuten Kobo en verantwoordelijk voor de strategische planning, evaluatie van business cases, budget- en voorspellingssystemen, relaties met investeerders, prestatiemeting, kasbeheer, financiële rapportage, accountancy, governance en risico en compliance. Als bewezen leider met een strategische visie leidde Philip vanaf 2011 de financiële planning en rapportage binnen de organisatie en hielp hij bij de vroege groei en uitbreidingsfases van het bedrijf.

Voordat Philip bij Rakuten Kobo kwam, was hij Director Internal Audit bij Indigo Books & Music Inc., waar hij het Canadese nalevingsprogramma voor interne controles van financiële rapportage ontwierp. Voordat Philip bij Indigo kwam, werkte hij vijf jaar bij KPMG LLP binnen de professionele verzekeringspraktijk gespecialiseerd in technologie, telecommunicatie, entertainment, retail en distributie.

Philip heeft een CPA, Chartered Accountant designation, een Masters of Accounting en een cum laude Bachelor of Arts, Accountancy Studies behaald aan de University of Waterloo.
