President & CEO

Michael is the President and Chief Executive Officer at Rakuten Kobo. Driving growth, profitability and international expansion in a fiercely competitive market, he combines a passion for reading with a deep focus on the hardware and software experiences that can make a customer’s reading life better. A passionate and engaging presenter and commentator, Michael speaks internationally on digital media, publishing and mobile technology and has been featured in the New Yorker, Wired, Canadian Business, National Post, Globe and Mail and the New York Times.

Michael maakt al sinds het begin in 2009 deel uit van de directie van Rakuten Kobo. Hiervoor was hij Chief Content Officer. Voordat hij bij Kobo kwam, was Michael oprichter en directeur van BookNet Canada en was hij mede-oprichter van de eerste online boekwinkel van Canada, Bookshelf.ca, die in 1998 door Indigo Books & Music werd overgenomen en Indigo.ca werd. Hier was hij werkzaam als VP Online Operations.

Michael heeft een Master in Business Administration, die hij behaalde aan de universiteit van West Ontario.

Prior to joining Rakuten Kobo, Anna was the Chief Financial Officer at Cox Automotive Canada, where she was responsible for the development of financial strategies, supporting optimization of operations, managing and reporting finances and driving results across all lines of business. Anna holds a CPA, CMA designation and serves on a number of boards, including Senior Persons Living Connected (SPLC).

Trevor Hunter - Chief Technology Officer

Trevor is Chief Technology Officer bij Rakuten Kobo en is verantwoordelijk voor de innovatieve technologie achter alle facetten van Kobo's eReading-service van wereldklasse. Hij heeft de leiding over de technische kant, waarbij kwaliteit en innovatie in een hoog vaandel staan terwijl hij tegelijkertijd gericht blijft op wat de klant wil en nodig heeft binnen het digitale leesecosysteem. Voorheen bekleedde Trevor de rol van Enterprise Architect bij Rakuten Kobo, waar hij inzetbare strategieën uitdacht om de doelen van het bedrijf te steunen door de beste praktijk in te zetten, terwijl hij ervoor zorgde dat de ontwikkeling en bedrijfsverantwoordelijkheid voor internetschaalarchitecturen geborgd bleven.

Voordat Trevor bij Rakuten Kobo kwam, bekleedde hij verschillende rollen bij Infusion, waar hij ervaring opdeed als betrouwbaar adviseur door zijn werk in verschillende bedrijfstakken, zoals retail, reizen & gastvrijheid en financiële diensten.

Trevor heeft een Bachelor of Science in Computerwetenschappen behaald aan de Universiteit van Ulster.

Responsible for the entire customer journey, from acquisition and retention to ebook, audiobook and eReader sales, she applies an integrated marketing discipline to deliver brand and business growth. Marianne is a dynamic leader and strong collaborator who motivates diverse teams toward improving reading lives, based on our core belief that life is better with books.

A communications professional with a certificate in media and advertising, Marianne worked agency-side doing public relations, social media and product marketing for several Fortune 500 companies. She also led Canada's marketing organization for Motorola during the advent of Android smartphones. Marianne joined Rakuten Kobo in 2012 to increase the company's marketing and sales impact through its global network of retail partners.

Pieter Swinkels - EVP, Publisher Relations en Content

Pieter Swinkels

Pieter Swinkels is the Chief Content Officer at Rakuten Kobo, a global leader in digital reading. Pieter is responsible for the growth of Kobo’s worldwide content catalogue and driving business relationships with publishers, agents and authors. In addition, his responsibilities include expanding the Kobo Writing Life self-publishing platform, expanding the Kobo Plus subscriptions service, and continuing to build out the Kobo Originals program of new and exclusive eBooks, audiobooks and podcast content.

Prior to joining Rakuten Kobo in 2011, Pieter worked in the international publishing industry, most notably as Publisher at De Bezige Bij in Amsterdam.

Dave Anderson - EVP, Content Sales

Dave Anderson

CSO

Dave Anderson is the Chief Strategy Officer at Rakuten Kobo, focusing on strategy and corporate development; big data and analytics; and global supply chain.

Working closely with the CEO and executive team, Dave is responsible for developing, communicating and managing the company’s strategic direction. His team is the insight hub for the company and is responsible for applying machine learning and big data techniques to analyze and interpret customer behaviours, business performance and product trends. Finally, Dave’s team manages all the complexities of a global consumer electronics supply chain.

Before joining Kobo, Dave was a management consultant with Accenture where he focused on retail operations, global supply chain operations and international market expansion. Prior to Accenture, Dave spent seven years with Indigo Books & Music Inc. working in the areas of supply chain, inventory management and assortment planning.

Dave holds an MBA from the Ivey Business School.
